Merrell Moab Walking Boots Review

By Simon J - Northampton

As a walker, I am always on the lookout for the latest in equipment that will keep me safe, secure and active on the trails. Be it the latest hydration bladders, the best new lightweight walking socks or the best new mens walking boots. The other day I bought a pair of Merrell Moab walking boots, and I took them out on a test hike. Nothing too strenuous, but also nothing too lazy. I gave them a mid hike test, just to see how they did.

The results were quite positive. The Merrell Moab coped very well on the day in question, as I chose to test it in a post rain environment, with thick wet mud and puddles everywhere. I started out slowly, getting used to the boots themselves and seeing how my feet took to them, just in case of any unforeseen blisters. Happily I can report that there were absolutely none, and that the Merrell Moab was a perfect fit straight out of the box. No blisters, no friction, nothing negative to report there.

The Merrell Moab was also delightfully at home in the sludge and slime of the watery forest. It had tremendous grip in the uneven areas of mud and foliage, its molded Vibram sole coping incredibly well with anything I threw at it. Even when I started to pick up the pace and test the soles more intensely, giving the boots less time to grip, they still kept pace with me, matching every move I made with precise balance and very safe traction.

The Moab is even waterproof, which was utterly ideal for the conditions of the test, and helped it pass in further flying colours. Both the tongue and the upper are made from a breathable yet waterproof material that will not only keep out any unwanted moisture, but will also let your feet ventilate, easing the effects of sweat and decreasing foot odour, as well as moisture. An excellent test.

I now select my Merrell Moab walking boots for the vast majority of my hiking ventures, but still have my old worn out pair of Salomon boots to hand…I just can’t bring myself to throw them away!
