My Hunter Wellies
By Carl T – Wokingham
I’ve had my pair of Hunter wellies in the back of the car for quite some time now. I must admit that I’m not the ‘wellingtons’ type, and much prefer to have a snowboard stuck to my feet than a pair of rubber boots, but I must admit, for what they are, they are kinda cool.
I’m not sure how these guys get away with their branding, working in marketing, you get to see things from ‘over the fence’ and I guess think how they have deliberately gone about to portray themselves. For a start they have managed to get pretty much every celebrity under the sun to be pictured wearing them at summer festivals (ok ok I did wear my pair at the V festival this year) which is a great marketing tool. I can remember that Liam Gallagher was pictured in a pair of Crocs a few years back and I wish I’d had a stake in a shoe shop.
Well, as a brand, I respect what they have built up. It’s almost to the point where Hoover got to years ago, where if you talked about a vacuum cleaner, most people would use the brand name ‘Hoover’ to describe it. Certainly when the rare conversation has come up about wellington boots, ‘Hunters’ has always been used rather than wellington boots. When you think about it, there aren’t many brand names that are used in this way.
The actual boots are pretty cool themselves, I’ve got just a plan black pair, but they go with everything that I wear, apart from my board shorts that is! I can’t say that I have walked for miles in them as I would go for a proper pair of boots, but I haven’t had any blisters from them and they have held together well. I’ve had water in them a few times but it’s been my own stupid fault really, I’m going to have to stop wading through rivers…
